Every Time I Quit Writing, I Come Back Different
There will be times when quitting writing, I felt empty, like something was missing from my life. When coming back, those experiences are shared, but not easily. It isn’t hard to come back and just start writing down words. However, it is very difficult to come back when writing with purpose.
Coming back and expressing what has happened during an absence of not writing, you feel stuck. My mind was all over the place when trying to do so and then when I finally made a move, I just left my desk and did something else with still, the will to write.
A tip I would give young writers is to go through this struggle. Unexpected, right? You see, writing is an art, just like a sport or an art piece. There will be times where you are stuck or times when you just don’t have the inspiration to do what you love.
To come back is the most difficult. When you want to start writing again is probably not when you start writing. It’s probably a day after, two weeks after or even two months after which was me.
I loved writing sports pieces, reports, and editorials daily. I never stopped writing about it and I didn’t know the reason why. Once I stopped, it felt like there was a weight lifted off my shoulders. The reason finally came up. My writing wasn’t meaningful to me.
The writer I wanted to be was a writer that talked about the problems around the world, personal issues, and making sure the writing is good instead of rushing through stories.
Young teens will always look for that motivation to write and that’s great because that shows they love to write. Young writers eventually learn that it is discipline that will keep you writing.
Here is an example, there was someone in my high school newspaper that wrote 7 stories every budget just to get a story released. There were multiple times she didn’t finish the stories she wanted to do on time and then didn’t show up to class. Here are some tips to be a disciplined writer.
Tips
That first time you find writing and start doing it everyday is undeniable. There is no stopping it and that is okay.
Writing at first feels awesome. You start doing one piece every week, then five, then ten, eventually you just do how many you want until you can’t. The key is to just go through this process and remember how this affected you in the end.
Don’t quit, but reflect and take a break from writing.
Many young teens will try to not think about writing entirely after going through phase one. Don’t do that because it will just become a phase in your life. This was a step I didn’t take too seriously in the beginning because I thought it would just come back to me. It didn’t and that is why it took two months for me to start writing again.
Find answers
When taking a break, I found answers and those answers are the reasons why I am writing this article today. Those answers will usually be what connects yourself and why you love to write.
Don’t rush back and instead pick a time to return
If you are feeling the inspiration of writing again, do not rush back. Do not make the mistake of wanting to go straight back in. Instead, just ease back into the process.
Enjoy writing!
The easiest part is when this process is all over and just write again. Remember to write what you want to write about and do not force anything.
The journey of writing isn’t supposed to be a straight line. Where is the fun in that? Be creative, fun, and write!
